As female riders we are used to the liberty that we each enjoy - to simply grab our jacket, keys and helmet and, head out on the road to enjoy riding our bikes. But a recent article about a lady in Saudi Arabia left many female riders feeling very fortunate for something that we each take for granted, it's an inspirational story:
International Female Ride Day (IFRD)
As Saturday 5th May approaches perhaps you have plans to get out on the road and enjoy the pleasure of riding, whether that be solo or with others. As the day dawns, female riders throughout the world will share their passion, regardless of age, culture or the diversity in motorcycle brands.
Encourage others and share your plans in advance......I plan to leave Reading Harley-Davidson in the morning to enjoy a couple of hours riding a circular route, returning to Reading H-D ready to welcome back Jo Green who has plans to do the IronHog Challenge on her own. That's some serious 'sharing the spark' on such a significant day.
New role: H.O.G. Officer Training (H.O.T.) Coordinator, UK & Ireland:
Marjorie Rae recently announced the appointment of Joanne Green to the volunteer role of National H.O.G. Officer Training (H.O.T.) Co-ordinator. Some of you may know or may have met Jo; she has previously attended the annual LOH Officer meetings in Oxford in her local chapter role before volunteering to assist with taking minutes and sharing valuable insights. In her new role, Jo will be primarily responsible for communications and processes related to:
• Road Captains Training registration and payments
• Group Riding Experience registration and payments
• Regional H.O.G. Officer Training registration and payments
Jo can be contacted by e-mail on: HOGUKandIrelandTraining@harley-davidson.com
H.O.G Road Captain Training:
The first of this year's three courses was well attended in Oxford; three female riders took part and shared interesting & valuable insights within the group during the weekend. With one rider on a trike it was insightful to learn firsthand how they can be involved within group riding.
H.O.G Group Riding Experience:
Saturday 7th April sees a fresh and exciting opportunity for members new to H.O.G and group riding. In participating in the Group Riding Experience they will spend a day learning basic concepts and common practices of riding their Harley-Davidson in a group and gain insight as to what may need to be considered.
They will also get out on the road and experience what it feels like to ride in a group.
Sparkle & Twinkle Weekend 2018:
For ladies with H.O.G membership (Life, Full or Associate), the interest in this unique Ladies of Harley weekend during the 14th, 15th & 16th September has been encouraging. This year it has been good to see ladies both 'in' and 'out' of chapter registering for this event exploring regions within England, Scotland, Ireland & Wales.
With just a few spaces remaining on most tours there's still time for ladies who are interested in, or considering taking part to contact either myself or Lorraine on our emails below for more up to date information. Facebook users can also refer to the Events section of 'The Sparkle and Twinkle Tour' page where an overview of each tour can be found, but don't forget that:
LADIES WHO WANT TO RIDE WITH THE GROUP ON TOUR MUST REGISTER TO TAKE PART:
To register, female riders (and their pillions) for a Sparkle Tour please email: email@example.com and female pillion riders for a Twinkle Tour please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your full name, H.O.G. membership number, the model of Harley-Davidson you ride and which tour you wish to participate in. If you're a member of a H.O.G Chapter we'd also be interested to know which one.
Keep 'sharing that spark' ladies with your inspiring stories. Simply email: email@example.com by Tuesday 10th April and please cc your National LOH Officers so we can keep track of your submissions.
Meanwhile, if there's anything Lorraine or I can assist with, then please don't hesitate to contact us.
